Legal Consultation Division

The functions of this division are enumerated as follows:-

  • to provide opinion, advice to the concerned authority on various legal issues  concerned with federal parliament, parliamentary committee and the Secretariat,
  • to provide legal advice to the concerned office-bearers on the acts, in addition to such matter as constitutional issues, a suit to which parliament is plaintiff or respondent, question of privileges, examination of the format, draft of such matters to be presented to  the parliament as the motion to amend Bills, resolution  motion, motion for calling attention etc and the act of interpretation of rules,
  • to provide legal opinion, advice on the legal aspect of a Bill,
  • to provide opinion, advice on  ratification and other procedural matters of a  treaty, agreement and the matters of international law,
  • to provide legal opinion on internal function, proceedings and policy relating to the Secretariat,
  • to provide verbal or written legal opinion as per necessity on matters relating to inter-parliament union and inter-parliamentary friendly groups and the internal procedure of the Secretariat.
